Overwhelmed? Me, too.
I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m behind on EVERYTHING. Weeding, mowing, deadheading … washing the car … it’s all just piled up into one giant to-do list. It can get really overwhelming.
It IS really overwhelming - so what do I do to start chipping away at it?
I reset my expectations.
Why expectations? If I don’t do this part first before anything else, I make a giant list and then get paralyzed by trying to decide what to do, and then I end up getting nothing done. So I take a minute or two to remind myself that there are a lot of things going on in life - with work, the flowers, the dogs, the horse, finances … I’m pulled in a lot of directions. I’m sure you can say the same. Housework and yardwork, well, those are just extra piled on top of the rest. So I give myself a little grace and encourage myself by saying that I don’t have to do everything all at once. This is a marathon, not a sprint. It’s ok if a few things slide and wait until tomorrow. I also tell myself that a little bit of progress is better than none at all, and I can always just start with a little bit and move forward from there. I’ve found that the hardest part of doing anything is just getting started. It usually flows nicely after that.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed?
